Help with pool filter choices

We have a saltwater negative edge pool and the original installer didn’t add a skimmer. They claimed the negative edge water feature would do the job.  We currently have a cartridge pool filter system. We have noticed black algae starting so we found a service tech to help us. He is suggesting among other things to upgrading to a DE system but without a skimmer we not sure if this is a good option. We are not wanting a more complicated system, just a efficient system.

Hi luci11957,

I’m currently working on a pool with a very similar situation a small cartridge filter on a pool with no skimmer. We upgraded to the largest cartridge filter we could find the Jacuzzi TriClops 550 Sq. Ft. Cartridge Filter and it has cleared the pool up quite nicely. I would highly recommend this filter.

Thank You

Thank you for your comment. Does the pool you are working on have any black algae present?  Also as for the DE system  I was also told one should have a proper skimmer. Do you have any knowledge of this type of filtration system?

No the pool we are working on does not have black algae, we did put together a guide on How to Remove Black Algae which you may find helpful. Yes for a DE filter I would suggest that you have a skimmer as this is normally how you add the DE filter media to the filter which would be directly through the skimmer.

Thank You

Patrick

Thank you for the very informative tips on killing my black algae. Also we are staying with our cartridge filters systems.

Thanks Luci11957, Is the black algae gone?
