Hi FourPlaza,

The difference between DE and Cartridge is that DE filters can filter out smaller particles than cartridge filters. DE normally filters down to 3 microns where cartridge filters down to 10 microns. Generally, cartridge filters are easier to maintain you just remove the cartridge and hose it down where DE filters require backwashing and the addition of DE powder when cleaning.
