My Anthony Apollo pool filter is old, but has a new pump and motor installed, I also replaced all ten filter grids (52 sq ft). After filter cleaning while adding the diatamateous earth I notice some of the earth returns into the pool. Is this normal, I find when cleaning the filter there is plenty of earth distrubuted over all the grids. Is there a chance that the earth that is returning into the pool while adding is due to the O-rings in the push/pull valve being worn? Or is it normal for some of the earth to slip thru the grids?
Hi SteveH,
The common culprits for DE getting back into your pool are cracked DE grids, you can check that off the list as you just replaced your grids. A bad spider gasket in your multiport valve, a damaged / cracked top manifold, a cracked / damaged stand pipe (the internal piping in filter), addition of too much DE powder, or a suction leak going into the pump. We put together a few how to guides on this topic which you may find helpful, I have listed these below.
